If you like being in the country without driving up the side of a mountain or miles and miles to get there, here's a terrific place to live!
Tucked in behind the Alaska Zoo and just south of fashionable Spring Hill Estates, the Dogwood area is a Hillside little secret. You can tell driving through that homeowners here have pride in their neighborhood. And, with several impressive new homes here it is clear that this is a place where people are investing for the long-term.
This mid-Hillside area is very much in demand owing to its proximity to Hillside Park with its lighted multi-use trails, a downhill ski area with its kid-friend lift system and Service High School. It's a quick commute to one of two Safeway stores, the newest Fred Meyer, the Dimond Center, Sam's Club, Sports Authority, Costco and a great McDonald's with the best of their in-store play areas.
Not farther up Seward Highway -- no red lights until 36th -- are all the major employment centers of the community: Midtown, Universities, Medical complexes the professional and government centers of downtown, and Elmendorf AFB and Ft Richardson Army post.
After these owners left Alaska they spent considerable time and effort in person supervising contractors to make this home modern and move-in ready for the next owners. It's all been repainted, the carpets are all new. In addition to remodeling and updating in recent years (all baths and the kitchen, for instance) everything that needed tuning up got done.
The big ticket items are done, too. There's a new Advantex septic rated for four bedrooms, just installed in recent weeks. The roof is new. So is the boiler and the high-efficiency associated hot water maker.
Need lots of workspace? How about an 864 square foot garage, plus a 3/4 bath for wash-up, and extra storage areas? There's loads of gravel parking in front, enough room for all your Alaska toys, boats, RV's and snow machines.
The entire home is cedar-sided for a dressy exterior and a pleasing presentation from the street. There's an extended wrap-around deck, and it's been just carpeted with a durable indoor-outdoor carpet. Notice the beautiful fuchsia in the planters across the entire front of the home. Indeed, the landscaping around the home sets it off in a most pleasing way.
This home has nearly 3100 square feet of living area and is aggressively priced given its size, location and tip-top condition. A multi-level floor plan, it's adaptable to many owner family types. There are several entrances to suit active lifestyles. The lovely front deck opens into the living room, where the fireplace was rebuilt with new tile and mantle. Downstairs one can enter from the garage or a side entry. Both lead to flooring covered with heavy and durable commercial carpet for anyone coming in after being an Alaskan, but wanting to have an entry that's easy to keep clean.
Especially valuable to many will be the large master suite with a charming nursery, a large walk-in closet and extensive beautifully modern bath. There's "his" and "her" vanities, the latter with a sitting area in front of the large counter space.
Secondary bedrooms are on this and the lowest level. The fourth bedroom becomes a legal room on the ground floor when the buyer specifies which of several windows the seller will replace at their expense to make it legal egress. That room has an office area beside it, too.
The kitchen is completely modern and remodeled with beautiful oak cabinetry, and new stainless steel appliances, including a five-burner gas range-oven.
